Our sourcing service is for products requiring little or no modification, simply brand application, packaging, and documentation customisation. This involves clarifying the requirements, looking for the best-fit solution and then managing the product's manufacturing, quality and import.
Product design focuses on a problem to be solved and a requirement set, during which we develop a new product solution. This typically requires engineering, followed by several rounds of testing and evaluation before sourcing.
Product design also requires more customisation in the manufacturing stage because you’re manufacturing a completely new product, not sourcing an existing one.
Sourcing is the process of identifying and evaluating products that can be procured to meet your needs. Once identified and brand customisation is specified, these products can be procured and supplied repeatedly, order by order.
“Design and supply” describes the process during which we develop a custom-designed product, set up its custom manufacturing, and then manage its supply to you. This, too, can ideally be procured and supplied repeatedly, order by order.
The key is that we need to understand your product requirements. These requirements might include details about the product's purpose, target market, functionality, aesthetics, materials, place of manufacture, pricing goals, etc.
We have templates that help us gather that information simply.
Several factors influence this, which include:
- The complexity of requirements, e.g. electronic products with many functions versus simple or static items.
- How much sampling or testing is desired, or if compliance verification required.
- For most products, shipping takes 3-4 weeks. The production run may be similar, while the development and manufacturing setup times vary significantly for simple sourced products versus custom-designed products.
- Depending on the product requirements, the first order of simple-sourced products may take 3-9 months to arrive, with the order time frame reducing after the first order.
- Custom design products typically take nine months minimum to land and can take a couple of years to develop, depending on the design and manufacturing complexity.
