Uppercontainer:
Embracing Sustainability and Waste Reduction
Uppercontainer introduces an eco-friendly, reusable takeaway solution, rooted in the idea that good design lasts. Designed by hone.pd for the Uppercontainer team, this functional design is all about practicality with its lightweight, all-in-one design made from high-quality PolyPropylene (PP), and it is proudly Australian made and owned. The product has been designed with commercial reuse in mind, as well as efficient manufacturing. To meet the requirements, clever, yet simple design incorporated features such as durable, long lasting material selection. The clever one-piece design means you won't lose any parts; and, it molds in one piece making efficient manufacturing. It also stacks and nests as one item making it perfect for commercial use. The slightly curved base and lid make stacking easy, whether it's open or closed. With room for 950ml and lines inside showing 750ml and 500ml for portion control, staying organised is simple, as is commercial setting portion delivery. It's safe for the microwave and dishwasher, so using and cleaning it is also a breeze. This simple product is therefore a great example of good design making an economical, highly usable product.
We kickstart the process by doing a thorough category research. In doing this we are working to identify the key factors that shape the design and specification of the product, in this case the Uppercontainer. This will typically include applicable compliance and standards, such as food grade materials requirements; as well as materials performance factors, and competitor space to ensure we create a unique product with features buyers desire. This product research helps us understand the design drivers and limitations we need to work within. From there, we move on to generating initial concepts that align with the product requirements. These concepts involve various aspects, such as container size, functionality, and style. This careful consideration ensures that every element is thoughtfully integrated into the brand identity of the client brand.
The research and creative thinking undertaken in the previous stage helps determine the product direction that suits the requirements and brand identity. This information guides us as we produce a 3D digital model of the product using computer-aided design (CAD). This model is used to make prototypes enabling testing in later stages. In this Detailed design stage we are taking the concept to detail factoring in manufacturing methods and material choices to ensure an outcome that can be efficiently manufactured at volume. We consider requirements such as being free of BPA and BPS, constructed from Food Grade PP for safety, offering durability, and being dishwasher safe and these requirements become specifications through the design documentation.
Once the 3D models are created we can generate a top-notch, fully functional prototype of the container. Such prototypes allow for evaluation and testing. Testing is conducted to validate the design's ability to perform as intended and meet the product requirements. Utilizing the insights gleaned from prototyping and testing, we refine the container design, incorporating valuable improvements and re-test as required iterating through this design cycle. Once we have demonstrated that the prototype meets the requirements, we can move to the next stages in preparing for manufacturing via creating the necessary manufacturing documents for tooling (injection molding molds creation) and production.
Once our Client has their great product ready to be produced, we can then support their marketing program by creating Product Visualization & Marketing Material. Here, we pay close attention to every detail, creating attractive images that serve a double role: displaying the product's features and communicating its value to potential buyers. These images capture the practicality and style of the Uppercontainer, showcasing its versatility and eco-friendly nature. By presenting its features in these eye-catching visuals, we aim to convey the essence of Uppercontainer's innovation, making it an essential choice for a sustainable lifestyle.
