The value of good design
Data indicates that good industrial design increases revenue and profits. A seven-year study of 200 manufacturing companies demonstrated that companies with more effective industrial design outperformed their counterparts.
Over seven years, the ratio of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) to net sales was 75% higher than the industry average. Companies with less effective industrial design had a 55% lower ratio than the industry average.
We innovated a product and production process to improve business profitability.
hone.pd partnered with Maxlight to create a commercial light with versatile and interchangeable parts that can fill different-sized ceiling holes.
With this new product and process, Maxlight was able to produce fewer components, hold less stock, require less storage, and improve cash flow. They were also able to sell more units with fewer product lines and grow their bottom line.

Since each client and project is different, our process is flexible and custom-built to your specific requirements. Here’s an overview of how we approach each project.
Step 1: Requirements and planning
Before developing your product, we must understand your requirements and other important sources, including requirements driven by standards and compliance. With this information we plan project delivery, including a testing plan, project sequence, and begin to understand direction options and feasibility.
Step 2: Design & iteration
With your requirements established, we create concept solutions. As required to commence prototyping, we take the desired concept into detailed design, including 3D CAD modelling, electronics development, and software/firmware development. We test, learn, and iterate with your prototypes to create the working product solution.
Step 3: Testing & compliance
A planned and considered test sequence throughout the development cycle is critical to ensuring quality products. In addition, depending on the product type and industry, testing of specific natures may be required to ensure a compliant product.
Step 4: Manufacturing
We prepare the final approved documentation for your first production run and tooling as required. This tooling is then commissioned via an off-tool sampling process. These samples are tested according to the product and project requirements and signed off for manufacture. Quality control during production is also conducted according to your test plan.
Step 5: Logistics
We undertake pre-shipment inspections according to your project test plan. We then land your products in your desired location, giving you a simple one-stop contact from ideation to landed goods.
