Daymo Adventure-Q

One pan for every heat source on the road

Daymo’s Adventure-Q is a portable kettle barbecue that fries, bakes, roasts, steams and slow cooks in a single vessel. It works on the road with gas, electric or induction heat but is equally good at home either in the oven or on a cooktop.

Daymo was founded in 2022 by Lyn and Damian Smith to solve a problem every camper knows: carrying four pans to cook one meal. The Adventure-Q replaces the frypan, the camp oven and the steamer with one piece of cookware that packs down for the road.

Key features of the product design include a cast aluminium body for even heat with a top of line German engineered non-stick coating, a bonded stainless steel base for induction compatibility, a domed lid with adjustable vents that turns the pan into an oven, and a stainless steel steamer rack that doubles as a roasting trivet.

Designing for every heat source

hone.pd were pleased to work with Lyn and Damian on the product design, engineering and supply of the Adventure-Q. The list of heat sources became the design brief, and almost every decision came from it.

Aluminium spreads heat evenly but an induction cooktop cannot detect it. Steel works on induction but heats unevenly and adds weight. The solution was a cast aluminium body with a bonded stainless steel plate underneath. The domed lid holds radiant heat above the food so it can roast and bake, and the vents control moisture and browning.

hone.pd worked through an exhaustive process on selecting a top tier non-stick coating and a manufacturer that could apply it consistently and evenly. The product supply required bringing together an array of items outside the primary manufacturer’s specialist scope including the Domed lid, silicone handles, scratch resistant steamer and multiple bag variations. We then managed tooling and production, and continue to supply the Adventure-Q to Daymo.
